Trinity Healing Center

Mission

The Trinity Healing Center, Inc. was created in the year 2000, to respond to the needs of those who suffer in silence due to domestic violence. The Trinity Healing Center, is a faith based, not-for-profit, community-based agency dedicated to the intervention and prevention of family violence and abuse, serving people of diverse faiths, cultures and personal experiences. The Healing Center's approach is a holistic one. We respect and value the diversity of each individual. In keeping with our mission, we respect whatever faith our clients may have, to provide them proper support and guidance.

We believe everyone deserves to live their life in a comfortable environment, free of not just physical violence, but of abuse by threats, intimidation and fear. Those abused physically, emotionally, psychologically/mentally, sexually, spiritually, verbally, and financially/economically, deserve a warm, supportive environment; an environment that reinforces individual growth, through creative social learning. Despite the odds, we are determined that every victimized person who entrusts us with their care, will become a survivor and will see some degree of progress in living a life of peace. Together with their families, we work towards the goal of maximizing each survivor's potential. We are totally committed to the principle that no individual shall be denied help when we are alerted, for Human Rights are not just for some people, they are for every Man, Woman and Child!

Purpose

Pregones Theater doing a play on domestic violence for our church's teenagers.

The Healing Center is developing a faith-based community response to the problem of violence in the family. We believe that the various churches, temples and mosques can, play a pivotal role in preventing and eradicating this hidden problem which so often happens secretly, behind closed doors. We want to stop the abuse/violence by finding preventive (educational) measures, to stop it before it starts. The Healing Center is available to provide workshops to increase knowledge, awareness and preventive measures to churches, schools and community organizations. The workshops offer information to families and community residents.

Goals

The Trinity Healing Center, Inc. will continue its services to victims/survivors by expanding it to include a coordinated community response through an inter-agency program that will include non-governmental agencies, in collaboration with the Kings County District Attorney's Office Central Brooklyn Domestic Violence Program. We want to help provide a culturally sensitive training to the clergy, as well as to law enforcement, criminal justice and community professionals as needed.

Some of the Trinity Healing Center services include:

  • Information – on resources that are available to insure safety, such as how to obtain an order of protection, filing a police report and how to file a petition for child custody.
  • Assistance – about what steps to take to obtain health care and other needs the client may have. On occasions, we have escorted clients to court or police precincts. Through the Trinity Lutheran Church food pantry, groceries are provided to the families we serve.
  • Support Groups – that provides individual counseling as well as group sessions that help our clients to understand the dynamics of violence, raises consciousness, regarding the cycle of violence in their lives, and will empower women to live in a healthy and safe environment.
  • Referrals – to appropriate agencies which include legal services, housing assistance, entitlements, mental health clinical support and available shelters.
  • Community Workshops – We provide domestic violence workshops to local schools, churches and local community based organizations.

Indigenous Proverb

May I become at all times, both now and forever a protector for those without protection, a guide for those who have lost their way, a ship for those with oceans to cross, a bridge for those with rivers to cross, a sanctuary for those in danger, a lamp for those without light, a place of refuge for those who lack shelter, and a servant to all in need.

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I call unto thee, when my heart fainteth; lead me to a rock that is too high for me. For thou hast been a refuge for me, a tower of strength in the face of the enemy. I will dwell in thy tent for ever; I will take refuge in the covert of thy wings.

Selah - Psalms 61:2-5
